'Sosy Problems' Sets Comedy to the "Sosiest" Level!

Beginning today, Christmas Day, GMA Films will make moviegoers experience a holiday treat to the ‘sosiest’ level with “Sosy Problems,” its official entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The movie, which stars four of GMA Network’s hottest leading ladies: Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heussaff, Bianca King and Rhian Ramos with Kapuso hunk actor Aljur Abrenica, is set to deliver a different kind of comedy: one that is light and “sosy.”

“Sosy Problems” is anything but slapstick comedy, although one could dub it as ‘lipstick comedy’ in that aside from titillating the funny bones of fans of comedy films, it will surely whet the appetite of movie viewers who are interested in high life fashion.

The movie tells about four rich, famous and gorgeous ladies who have one major problem: their favorite hangout place, The Polo Club, is in danger of being demolished and its owners are planning to build a not-so-sosy mall in its place.  The ladies will join forces and combine their resources in order to bring the demolition to a halt.  They will risk everything – even their poise and composure – to send their message across.

Directed by Andoy Ranay, “Sosy Problems” will open today, December 25, in nationwide theaters.

NCA 2012: CineMania is For Cinema One!

The very first Netizens' Choice Awards has been launched by the collaboration of the three entertainment blogsites namely LionhearTV, Showbiznest, and Starmometer. And one of its major category is the Bloggers' Choice for the Most Favorite TV Station wherein the winner depends on the judgement of the board of bloggers.

Since the niche of this blog site is all about movies, CineMania therefore is choosing Cinema One as our top bet for this category.

Though Cinema One is exclusively only to Sky Cable, it's good to know that it is very popular local cable channel among the Filipinos. Though not all the people can avail Cinema One, it still manage to captivate the hearts of many viewers. Tell me who doesn't know about Cinema One?!

It's great that there is a channel which is solely dedicated to Pinoy films. With this TV station, people learn to value our very own made movies.

Cinema One lets the viewers view different movies from classic to modern time. Yes, it not always air the latest or modern movies. Rather, it even allots a timeslot for the classic hit movies. With this channel, we are able to differentiate the old movies from the new ones. And of course, we see how the stars grow from a child wonder to a parental role.

Cinema One also gives a glimpse on how a hit movie was made through "Take One." Yes, this Cinema One TV program features the Behind-the-Scenes of the latest movies as well as actual interviews of the lead casts, directors, or writers of the movie. "Take One" which originates from Cinema One is now dominating the YouTube! Cool!

Aside from airing movies in a TV channel, Cinema One pioneers their very own "Cinema One Originals" which serves as a Film Festival of the Indie Films conducted every year. In this way, it gives importance and chances to the new breed of Indie Film actors and producers to be treated like mainstream stars! Many thanks to ABS-CBN for bringing us Cinema One!

Well, these are some of the reasons why CinemaMania bets Cinema One! How about you, how do you think Cinema One creates impact to our daily lives?!

Erich Gonzales Topbills Another Dark Film, 'Mariposa Sa Hawla Ng Gabi'

After “Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang”, Erich Gonzales stars in another dark and gritty film by acclaimed director Richard Somes, “Mariposa Sa Hawla ng Gabi” that will be screened during the 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival.

Somes admitted that he loved Erich’s acting style, “I thought Erich really suited the lead character of Mariposa and I have already written the script to really suit her personality. The problem was, she became super busy because of her other commitments,” he said.

The director who has worked with Erich thrice was surprised when the seasoned actress informed him that she has received the script and felt ecstatic to do the film. “We talked and she agreed to adjust her schedule to make room for Mariposa,” Somes said.

In Mariposa, Erich will portray a ‘probinsiyana’ who ventures into the city to find her long lost sister. Somes said that this reunion would be fun and easy for both of them since he already knew what Erich is capable of. “Erich will portray a very challenging role here and very different from the ones she has done so far,” he said.

The director mentioned that in the film, Erich skinned a monitor lizard without any hint of fear and that she has some really amazing fight scenes without the help of a double. “You will really see a ‘kickass’ Erich in this film,” he said.

Likewise for Alfred Vargas who also stars in Mariposa. Somes said that Vargas prepared physically and mentally for this project, “Alfred has always been pictured as a kind and handsome corporate guy; very clean and gentlemanly.  But here in Mariposa, he’ll portray a very different role; the characters here are dark, grim and gritty,” he said.

The film was set in 1994 in the gloomy side of Metro Manila. “Mariposa Sa Hawla ng Gabi” also stars Joel Torre, Mark Gil, Rez Cortes, Maria Isabel Lopez, Dennis Padilla and John Lapus who will also portray a shocking role.

“There are a lot of compelling scenes in Mariposa. Erich was very fantastic in portraying a really strong woman,” said Somes.

Watch “Mariposa Sa Hawla ng Gabi” on December 1 at 5:00 p.m., December 5 at 9:15 p.m. and December 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the Robinson’s Galleria Movie World and December 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Edsa Shang-ri La Cineplex during the 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival.

The 2012 Cinema One Originals festival will run from November 28 to December 9 at Robinson’s Galleria Movie World and from November 29 to December 4 at the Edsa Shangri-La Cineplex. The festival’s much awaited awards night will be held on December 3 at the Studio 1, ABS-CBN Main Building.

The 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival is an annual project of the Cinema One, the local movie channel on cable, owned and operated by Creative Programs, Inc (CPI).
