Dingdong Dantes Optimistic About the Success of "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles"

Kapuso primetime royalty Dingdong Dantes is very optimistic about the success of his upcoming horror film, "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronices," which will hit nationwide theatres beginning Wednesday, October 17.

The movie, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Erik Matti, is pioneering in its use of digital set extension via chroma key or "green screen" technology in all of its sequences.  The film, arguably the biggest horror film of 2012, is shot entirely in green screen and utilises a combination of live action footage and three-dimensional computer graphics (CG).

In his rounds of radio promotions for the film starting with GMA's flagship radio stations DZBB (AM) and Barangay LS 97.1 (FM), Dantes expressed pride for his film, which took more than a year to create.

"Very entertaining talaga yung pelikula.  Bukod sa pagiging isang horror film niya, nandun din ang action at comedy, at makikita mo rin sa pelikula yung true Filipino values pagdating sa pamilya, and definitely, it's an eye candy," Dingdong said.

"Tiktik" also stars Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez, Janice de Belen, LJ Reyes, Ramon Bautista, RJ Salvador, Mike Gayoso, Montito Almario, Jeff Fernandez, John Harley, Cris Pastor, Roi Vinzon and Rina Reyes.

The film is produced by five production outfits namely Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures (owned by Dingdong Dantes), Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership and GMA Films.

Watch out for the biggest horror movie of the year -- "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" -- coming to nationwide theatres beginning October 17. The film is rated PG by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), meaning children below 13 years old may watch the movie as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Producers Reportedly Spent Close to P80M for "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles"

During the press conference of the upcoming horror film "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" the producers of the film confirmed reports that they have apparently spent close to P80million for its production.

Given the complexity of the film's effects, it is not unlikely that its total cost would reach close to the rumoured amount, explained the producers.  While the live action sequences were shot within just 28 days (still unusually longer than most local productions), the post-production stage took more than a year to complete.

Starring Dingdong Dantes with Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez and Janice de Leon, the film by acclaimed director Erik Matti is produced by five different film companies: Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures (owned by Dingdong Dantes), Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership and GMA Films.

"Tiktik," which is poised to be the biggest and perhaps the most expensive horror movie of 2012, is the only full-length Filipino film shot entirely in chroma key or "green screen" technology.  It also utilised somewhere between 30 and 40 computer graphics (CG) artists to create the complex three-dimensional environments and creatures which were seamlessly incorporated into the live action footage.  "Tiktik" joins the ranks of only a handful of films shot in this kind of technology including the Hollywood produced "300" and "Avatar."

"Isa lang ang hangarin namin nang ginagawa namin into: to entertain.  Sa amin, wala kaming tinipid; lahat ng kaya namin ay ibinigay namin dito," said lead star and co-producer Dingdong Dantes.

Also starring in "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronices" are LJ Reyes, Ramon Bautista, RJ Salvador, Mike Gayoso, Montito Almario, Jeff Fernandez, John Harley, Cris Pastor, Roi Vinzon and Rina Reyes.

"Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" Opens in Nationwide Theatres Today

The biggest, and perhaps the grandest, horror movie of the year, "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" opens in nationwide theatres today, October 17 and is expected to reap huge revenues at the box office.

The Erik Matti film, starring Dingdong Dantes and Lovi Poe with Joey Marquez, Janice de Belen and LJ Reyes, took close to P80 million and more than a year to produce.

Shot entirely in chroma key or "green screen technology," the movie features the seamless integration of live action footage and three-dimensional computer graphics (CG) created by approximately 40 Filipino computer graphics artists.

The movie is produced by Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures (owned by Dingdong Dantes), Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership and GMA Films.

Dingdong plays Makoy, a devil-may-care guy who finds himself trapped in a situation that no person in his right mind would wish upon himself. When he comes to the province to reconcile with his estranged girlfriend Sonia (Lovi Poe), who is heavy with their firstborn, Dingdong’s character must device a way to keep his loved ones from safe and alive from an army of aswangs. “It is such an ambitious project and I am happy that I accepted it,” shares Lovi.

LJ Reyes who won raves as the town whore in this year’s Cinemalaya entry Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino, takes on the role of an aswang in Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles. “Direk Erik is a very brilliant director. He has an amazing mind. And very funny, too. The set never felt like a workplace.”

From the get-go, the concept was clear-headed. Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles was designed as a siege film. “It was about a group of people with their own dynamics, trapped in one setting with the danger constantly hounding them outside of that setting,” shares Direk Erik.

"Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" is rated PG by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).  This means that children/minors may watch the film as long as they are accompanied by adults.

'Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles' To Create a New Trend in Philippine Cinema, Hits the Theaters This October 17!

Filmmaking is about taking risks, says Erik Matti, writer and director of the biggest horror adventure of 2012, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles. What else would you call the movie’s astronomical budget, the decision to shoot it entirely on green screen and have a bad boy character as the film’s main protagonist?

The concept immediately appealed to lead actor Dingdong Dantes who is playing against type in this project. “Collaborating with Erik Matti and executive producer Dondon Monteverde allowed me to break out of the stereotype of my roles on TV and in the movies.”

A co-production venture of Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures, Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership, and GMA Films, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles was not an easy endeavor to undertake.

“We were challenged because the movie was going to be shot entirely on green screen, the first time it’s being done in the Philippines,” says Dondon Monteverde.

Post-production work proved to be tougher. Monteverde says that they made the right decision to bide their time. “We wanted to make sure that we did things right especially in post production. We thought that the hard part of it was during the principal shoot but we realized that the post production stage was even harder because of the complexity we put in CG (computer graphics) and in the grading stage of the film.”

The makers of Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles also insisted on giving the aswang experience a completely Pinoy flavor. Relates Dave Yu, visual effects director: “We wanted a different take on the aswang designs and stay away from what has been done before especially in Western movies. We don’t want our creatures to look like werewolves or vampires.”

The film’s production designer Peter Collias who has worked on Hollywood productions like The Matrix, Moulin Rouge, Dark City, 10,000 BC and Ghost Rider believes that everyone involved in this landmark horror movie deserves a pat on the back. “We have fused great live action in a beautifully fabricated environment. We have managed to create strange and wonderful backdrops for the story to take place in. I also feel the relentless attention to detail regarding the modeling, texture and animating of the creatures will set a new benchmark for monsters design in the Philippines.”

All things considered, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles strengthens the long-held belief in the ingenuity and creativeness of Filipino artists.

“The effort of creating a digital world from scratch, the amazing creatures and the cohesion between live animation and CG will set this film apart from others of its kind.”

Go see Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles when it opens in a theater near you on October 17, 2012!
