"Aswang" is a very popular Filipino myth. If Eastern Europe has their vampires and werewolves, the Philippines on the other hand has our own "Aswang!"
We were already awaken by the different stories about "Aswang." These type of folkloric beings were already featured and emphasized in different TV documentaries or movies. "Shake, Rattle, and Roll," "Aswang," (Alma Moreno's 90's movie), "Aswang in the City," and "Aswang" (Lovi Poe's 2011 movie) were some of the popular films focusing on these mythical Pinoy creatures. Now in the modern age, get ready to discover a brand new "Aswang" story.
Star Cinema and Skylight Films bring another tale of "Aswang." This time, they unveil the legend and uncover the dark beginning of these human-killing creatures.
As the title suggests, "Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang" focuses on the legend of this mythical creature. According to its director Richard Somes, the movie emphasizes on the religious side on how an "Aswang" started. It tells how Corazon, the lead character chooses her dark path why she became as such!
Kapamilya's one of the hottest young actresses Erich Gonzales portrays the title role. She is paired for the first time with the Universal Leading Man Derek Ramsay who plays as her husband. We may recall that Erich and Derek already worked together in the hit fashion TV series "Magkaribal" but not as a love team since Derek's love interest was Gretchen Barretto while Erich' was Enchong Dee!
Here is the full trailer of the said horror/suspense film:
Richard even revealed that the idea of the concept was created in 2008 after he finished his first horror full-length script "Yanggaw," a story that dwells on the aswang myth and the culture that surrounds the legend. The film is said to be set in the time of the Japanese rule.
