'Sosy Problems' Sets Comedy to the "Sosiest" Level!

Beginning today, Christmas Day, GMA Films will make moviegoers experience a holiday treat to the ‘sosiest’ level with “Sosy Problems,” its official entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The movie, which stars four of GMA Network’s hottest leading ladies: Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heussaff, Bianca King and Rhian Ramos with Kapuso hunk actor Aljur Abrenica, is set to deliver a different kind of comedy: one that is light and “sosy.”

“Sosy Problems” is anything but slapstick comedy, although one could dub it as ‘lipstick comedy’ in that aside from titillating the funny bones of fans of comedy films, it will surely whet the appetite of movie viewers who are interested in high life fashion.

The movie tells about four rich, famous and gorgeous ladies who have one major problem: their favorite hangout place, The Polo Club, is in danger of being demolished and its owners are planning to build a not-so-sosy mall in its place.  The ladies will join forces and combine their resources in order to bring the demolition to a halt.  They will risk everything – even their poise and composure – to send their message across.

Directed by Andoy Ranay, “Sosy Problems” will open today, December 25, in nationwide theaters.

NCA 2012: CineMania is For Cinema One!

The very first Netizens' Choice Awards has been launched by the collaboration of the three entertainment blogsites namely LionhearTV, Showbiznest, and Starmometer. And one of its major category is the Bloggers' Choice for the Most Favorite TV Station wherein the winner depends on the judgement of the board of bloggers.

Since the niche of this blog site is all about movies, CineMania therefore is choosing Cinema One as our top bet for this category.

Though Cinema One is exclusively only to Sky Cable, it's good to know that it is very popular local cable channel among the Filipinos. Though not all the people can avail Cinema One, it still manage to captivate the hearts of many viewers. Tell me who doesn't know about Cinema One?!

It's great that there is a channel which is solely dedicated to Pinoy films. With this TV station, people learn to value our very own made movies.

Cinema One lets the viewers view different movies from classic to modern time. Yes, it not always air the latest or modern movies. Rather, it even allots a timeslot for the classic hit movies. With this channel, we are able to differentiate the old movies from the new ones. And of course, we see how the stars grow from a child wonder to a parental role.

Cinema One also gives a glimpse on how a hit movie was made through "Take One." Yes, this Cinema One TV program features the Behind-the-Scenes of the latest movies as well as actual interviews of the lead casts, directors, or writers of the movie. "Take One" which originates from Cinema One is now dominating the YouTube! Cool!

Aside from airing movies in a TV channel, Cinema One pioneers their very own "Cinema One Originals" which serves as a Film Festival of the Indie Films conducted every year. In this way, it gives importance and chances to the new breed of Indie Film actors and producers to be treated like mainstream stars! Many thanks to ABS-CBN for bringing us Cinema One!

Well, these are some of the reasons why CinemaMania bets Cinema One! How about you, how do you think Cinema One creates impact to our daily lives?!

Erich Gonzales Topbills Another Dark Film, 'Mariposa Sa Hawla Ng Gabi'

After “Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang”, Erich Gonzales stars in another dark and gritty film by acclaimed director Richard Somes, “Mariposa Sa Hawla ng Gabi” that will be screened during the 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival.

Somes admitted that he loved Erich’s acting style, “I thought Erich really suited the lead character of Mariposa and I have already written the script to really suit her personality. The problem was, she became super busy because of her other commitments,” he said.

The director who has worked with Erich thrice was surprised when the seasoned actress informed him that she has received the script and felt ecstatic to do the film. “We talked and she agreed to adjust her schedule to make room for Mariposa,” Somes said.

In Mariposa, Erich will portray a ‘probinsiyana’ who ventures into the city to find her long lost sister. Somes said that this reunion would be fun and easy for both of them since he already knew what Erich is capable of. “Erich will portray a very challenging role here and very different from the ones she has done so far,” he said.

The director mentioned that in the film, Erich skinned a monitor lizard without any hint of fear and that she has some really amazing fight scenes without the help of a double. “You will really see a ‘kickass’ Erich in this film,” he said.

Likewise for Alfred Vargas who also stars in Mariposa. Somes said that Vargas prepared physically and mentally for this project, “Alfred has always been pictured as a kind and handsome corporate guy; very clean and gentlemanly.  But here in Mariposa, he’ll portray a very different role; the characters here are dark, grim and gritty,” he said.

The film was set in 1994 in the gloomy side of Metro Manila. “Mariposa Sa Hawla ng Gabi” also stars Joel Torre, Mark Gil, Rez Cortes, Maria Isabel Lopez, Dennis Padilla and John Lapus who will also portray a shocking role.

“There are a lot of compelling scenes in Mariposa. Erich was very fantastic in portraying a really strong woman,” said Somes.

Watch “Mariposa Sa Hawla ng Gabi” on December 1 at 5:00 p.m., December 5 at 9:15 p.m. and December 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the Robinson’s Galleria Movie World and December 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Edsa Shang-ri La Cineplex during the 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival.

The 2012 Cinema One Originals festival will run from November 28 to December 9 at Robinson’s Galleria Movie World and from November 29 to December 4 at the Edsa Shangri-La Cineplex. The festival’s much awaited awards night will be held on December 3 at the Studio 1, ABS-CBN Main Building.

The 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival is an annual project of the Cinema One, the local movie channel on cable, owned and operated by Creative Programs, Inc (CPI).

Sam Milby and Pokwang Deals with "Age Doesn't Matter" Affair in '24/7 in Love'

What is a 40-year-old virgin supposed to do when she finds out her fiancé has been cheating on her? Well, find a new man who she can trust and love of course! But this isn’t an easy task so who better to help her than her bff, who’s gay and full of bright ideas?

Sam Milby and Pokwang bring to life the comic story of Charles and Virgie in Star Cinema’s offering in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Star Magic, “24/7 In Love.” All three are excited in their first Star Magic collaboration and they say their episode has a lot of firsts. “It has a lot of firsts I think, this is my first time doing a movie with Pokwang. Hindi naman first time na katrabaho ko siya, we did a ‘Your Song’ a long time ago but it’s my first time being paired with her in a movie. Our story, yung story namin ni Pokwang very comedy talaga,” Sam shares. “I know it was Pokwang’s first time,  ako yung first kissing scene niya ever in a movie, so she’s a virgin in the movie and she’s a virgin in terms of kissing scene, so I’m happy that I was the first, hahaha!”

On the other hand, John Lapus, who’s also part of the episode’s cast, reveals that he jumped at the chance to work with the other Star Magic artists as this is a rare opportunity. “Hindi nako tumanggi, siyempre no, bilang bibihira na pagsama-samahin kaming mga Star Magic artists sa ganito kalaki na project. Sana at least once a year, merong Star Magic movie tulad nitong ‘24/ 7 In Love’ kasi masaya na magkakasama kami and maski rin sa mga fans, ‘di ba ang bongga na nakikita nilang magkakasama kami sa isang big screen, nandun kami and of course sa premiere night makikita nila kaming lahat dun.”

Both Sam and John agree that “24/7 In Love” has a lot of lessons for the heart, which audiences from all ages can relate to. “I would say some of the most beautiful things in life come out in the most unexpected times,” Sam admits. “Sa movie, marerealize mo na, one, age doesn’t matter and two, walang pinipiling tao ang pag ibig kahit gwapo, hindi maganda, mayaman, mahirap. Kapag ang puso tinamaan ka talaga maiinlove ka talaga, kahit 24/7 pa,” John adds.

Sam and Pokie’s episode is directed by Frasco Mortiz. Learn about the highs and lows of love in “24/7 In Love” coming to cinemas nationwide on November 21 (Wednesday).

Also part of "24/7 In Love" are other Star Magic artists including John Lapus, Maricar Reyes, Jayson Gainza, Matt Evans, Nina Dolino, Joseph Marco, Jason Francisco, Helga Krapf, Andrei Felix, Seppi Borromeo, and Ian Rusell.

Diether Ocampo and Maja Salvador Share the Lesson of Self-Discovery in '24/7 in Love'

Like the other artists involved in Star Cinema’s offering in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Star Magic, “24/7 In Love,” both Diether Ocampo and Maja Salvador were pleasantly surprised when they were asked to join the star-studded ensemble.

“It’s quite big I mean it took 20 years to put all of us together in one big project and for me it’s something, na putting a seal, seal na Star Magic, na ito well established and well respected management company,” Diether said. “Sobrang ano, ako kasali? Yung talagang kinikuwestiyon ko talaga kasi kasali ako. ‘Di ba ang laking project ng ‘24/7’ and para isali ka sa ganitong project, talagang nagtitiwala sila sayo,” Maja also shared.

Diether described his and Maja’s episode in the movie as ‘started to be very light then it became kind of dark.’ Diet plays the role of Ken, a successful businessman who has a lot of personal issues. His views on love will be changed when Maja, who plays the role of his employee Barbara, helps him figure out how a baby ended up in his hotel room and whether he is the father of the child. “My character goes through so many things, a lot are happening simultaneously then her character sobrang kulit, like ‘can you stop please because I need to do something,’ not knowing that she will be then one to provide the answer na matagal na niyang hindi naiintindihan.”

Maja on the other hand, refers to her character Barbara as ‘manang’ and a hopeless romantic. “Ako yung magsasabi sa kanya (Ken) na kailangan buksan ang puso mo para mas maraming magagandang mangyari sa ‘yo. Sa totoong buhay kapag pinili mo na maging malungkot forever, kang magiging malungkot, pero once na binuksan mo talaga yung puso mo at pinili mong sumaya kahit hindi happiness sa relationship ha, parang kung pipiliin mo lang yung happiness para sa sarili mo, sa pagkatao mo, yung lahat susunod yun eh. So ganun ‘yung character ko.”

And as Ken and Barbara wait for the DNA results on the baby, will the outcome bring about a new beginning for the two of them? Or will it pull them back again to the pains of their past?

Diet and Maja’s episode is directed by John D Lazatin.

Also part of “24/7 In Love” are other Star Magic artists including John Lapus, Maricar Reyes, Jayson Gainza, Matt Evans, Nina Dolino, Joseph Marco, Jason Francisco, Helga Krapf, Andrei Felix, Seppi Borromeo, and Ian Rusell.

Don’t miss the star-studded celebrity movie of the year, “24/7 in Love,” which will be shown on cinemas nationwide on November 21 (Wednesday).

Dingdong Dantes Optimistic About the Success of "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles"

Kapuso primetime royalty Dingdong Dantes is very optimistic about the success of his upcoming horror film, "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronices," which will hit nationwide theatres beginning Wednesday, October 17.

The movie, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Erik Matti, is pioneering in its use of digital set extension via chroma key or "green screen" technology in all of its sequences.  The film, arguably the biggest horror film of 2012, is shot entirely in green screen and utilises a combination of live action footage and three-dimensional computer graphics (CG).

In his rounds of radio promotions for the film starting with GMA's flagship radio stations DZBB (AM) and Barangay LS 97.1 (FM), Dantes expressed pride for his film, which took more than a year to create.

"Very entertaining talaga yung pelikula.  Bukod sa pagiging isang horror film niya, nandun din ang action at comedy, at makikita mo rin sa pelikula yung true Filipino values pagdating sa pamilya, and definitely, it's an eye candy," Dingdong said.

"Tiktik" also stars Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez, Janice de Belen, LJ Reyes, Ramon Bautista, RJ Salvador, Mike Gayoso, Montito Almario, Jeff Fernandez, John Harley, Cris Pastor, Roi Vinzon and Rina Reyes.

The film is produced by five production outfits namely Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures (owned by Dingdong Dantes), Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership and GMA Films.

Watch out for the biggest horror movie of the year -- "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" -- coming to nationwide theatres beginning October 17. The film is rated PG by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), meaning children below 13 years old may watch the movie as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Producers Reportedly Spent Close to P80M for "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles"

During the press conference of the upcoming horror film "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" the producers of the film confirmed reports that they have apparently spent close to P80million for its production.

Given the complexity of the film's effects, it is not unlikely that its total cost would reach close to the rumoured amount, explained the producers.  While the live action sequences were shot within just 28 days (still unusually longer than most local productions), the post-production stage took more than a year to complete.

Starring Dingdong Dantes with Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez and Janice de Leon, the film by acclaimed director Erik Matti is produced by five different film companies: Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures (owned by Dingdong Dantes), Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership and GMA Films.

"Tiktik," which is poised to be the biggest and perhaps the most expensive horror movie of 2012, is the only full-length Filipino film shot entirely in chroma key or "green screen" technology.  It also utilised somewhere between 30 and 40 computer graphics (CG) artists to create the complex three-dimensional environments and creatures which were seamlessly incorporated into the live action footage.  "Tiktik" joins the ranks of only a handful of films shot in this kind of technology including the Hollywood produced "300" and "Avatar."

"Isa lang ang hangarin namin nang ginagawa namin into: to entertain.  Sa amin, wala kaming tinipid; lahat ng kaya namin ay ibinigay namin dito," said lead star and co-producer Dingdong Dantes.

Also starring in "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronices" are LJ Reyes, Ramon Bautista, RJ Salvador, Mike Gayoso, Montito Almario, Jeff Fernandez, John Harley, Cris Pastor, Roi Vinzon and Rina Reyes.

"Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" Opens in Nationwide Theatres Today

The biggest, and perhaps the grandest, horror movie of the year, "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" opens in nationwide theatres today, October 17 and is expected to reap huge revenues at the box office.

The Erik Matti film, starring Dingdong Dantes and Lovi Poe with Joey Marquez, Janice de Belen and LJ Reyes, took close to P80 million and more than a year to produce.

Shot entirely in chroma key or "green screen technology," the movie features the seamless integration of live action footage and three-dimensional computer graphics (CG) created by approximately 40 Filipino computer graphics artists.

The movie is produced by Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures (owned by Dingdong Dantes), Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership and GMA Films.

Dingdong plays Makoy, a devil-may-care guy who finds himself trapped in a situation that no person in his right mind would wish upon himself. When he comes to the province to reconcile with his estranged girlfriend Sonia (Lovi Poe), who is heavy with their firstborn, Dingdong’s character must device a way to keep his loved ones from safe and alive from an army of aswangs. “It is such an ambitious project and I am happy that I accepted it,” shares Lovi.

LJ Reyes who won raves as the town whore in this year’s Cinemalaya entry Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino, takes on the role of an aswang in Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles. “Direk Erik is a very brilliant director. He has an amazing mind. And very funny, too. The set never felt like a workplace.”

From the get-go, the concept was clear-headed. Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles was designed as a siege film. “It was about a group of people with their own dynamics, trapped in one setting with the danger constantly hounding them outside of that setting,” shares Direk Erik.

"Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" is rated PG by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).  This means that children/minors may watch the film as long as they are accompanied by adults.

'Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles' To Create a New Trend in Philippine Cinema, Hits the Theaters This October 17!

Filmmaking is about taking risks, says Erik Matti, writer and director of the biggest horror adventure of 2012, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles. What else would you call the movie’s astronomical budget, the decision to shoot it entirely on green screen and have a bad boy character as the film’s main protagonist?

The concept immediately appealed to lead actor Dingdong Dantes who is playing against type in this project. “Collaborating with Erik Matti and executive producer Dondon Monteverde allowed me to break out of the stereotype of my roles on TV and in the movies.”

A co-production venture of Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures, Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership, and GMA Films, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles was not an easy endeavor to undertake.

“We were challenged because the movie was going to be shot entirely on green screen, the first time it’s being done in the Philippines,” says Dondon Monteverde.

Post-production work proved to be tougher. Monteverde says that they made the right decision to bide their time. “We wanted to make sure that we did things right especially in post production. We thought that the hard part of it was during the principal shoot but we realized that the post production stage was even harder because of the complexity we put in CG (computer graphics) and in the grading stage of the film.”

The makers of Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles also insisted on giving the aswang experience a completely Pinoy flavor. Relates Dave Yu, visual effects director: “We wanted a different take on the aswang designs and stay away from what has been done before especially in Western movies. We don’t want our creatures to look like werewolves or vampires.”

The film’s production designer Peter Collias who has worked on Hollywood productions like The Matrix, Moulin Rouge, Dark City, 10,000 BC and Ghost Rider believes that everyone involved in this landmark horror movie deserves a pat on the back. “We have fused great live action in a beautifully fabricated environment. We have managed to create strange and wonderful backdrops for the story to take place in. I also feel the relentless attention to detail regarding the modeling, texture and animating of the creatures will set a new benchmark for monsters design in the Philippines.”

'Amorosa: The Revenge' Now Showing on Philippine Cinemas!

Today’s the day that Amorosa: The Revenge—the newest offering from Skylight Films, will begin its reign of terror in theaters. Brought to you by the same group behind the box-office smash Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang, this movie is not your usual horror flick.

Its lead actress, Angel Aquino, realized as much when she reported for work on her first day of filming. Although this movie marked her first foray into the horror genre, she didn’t expect to be challenged by her role as Rosa. Rosa is the mother of two boys named Amiel and Rommel (played by Martin del Rosario and Enrique Gil, respectively), and since she is also a mother in real life, Angel thought it would be easy to bring Rosa to life onscreen.

“I thought it would be natural for me, pero nung nandun ako ang hirap, lalo na when we were filming a particularly emotional scene. Muntik ko nang hindi kayanin. I even tried to convince our writers to change the scene pero in the end I managed to do it naman. Dahil sa Amorosa: The Revenge, I realized mas challenging pala umarte when your character is similar to who you are off-cam,” she says.

Amorosa: The Revenge director Topel Lee, who helmed many successful horror movies, says he signed on to sit in the director’s chair because he was attracted to the script. “Actually, nung nabasa ko yung script nito, natuwa ako kasi sa dramatic part nung story, although siyempre I also liked the horror. Yung drama dito sa Amorosa: The Revenge is yung character ni Angel will be forced to make a difficult choice that will have devastating consequences on her family. It’s the mixture of drama and horror that makes it different.”

Direk Topel promises that despite the drama, horror movie junkies will still find plenty to enjoy about Amorosa: The Revenge because he made an effort to present the horror elements in a new and exciting way. “As a viewer, siyempre pag napanood niyo ito, you will get pulled in because of the drama, pero iniba ko rin yung horror. Personally, wala pa akong nakikitang movie na may ganitong klaseng twists.”

Enrico Santos of Skylight Films reveals he and his team began working on Amorosa: The Revenge as early as two years ago. They wanted to be sure it presented a fresh approach to the horror genre. “Amorosa: The Revenge was made with the intention of coming up with a horror movie na may halong family drama, pero mas intimate,” he explains. “Kasi yung mga horror movies ng Star Cinema, mas large-scale at mas naka-focus sa mga big moments.”

He adds that their other goal was to come up with a horror movie that is uniquely Filipino. “Hindi Asian, hindi Japanese, basta yung intimate na masasabi namin na tunay na ganito manakot ang Pinoy. Interesting when you watch it and see all the elements that we used to achieve that kind of effect,” Enrico promises.

Now that Amorosa: The Revenge has begun its reign of terror, head to the nearest theater so you can see for yourself if Enrico and his team were successful in ushering in a new era for Filipino horror movies.

Also starring in Amorosa: The Revenge are Empress, Carlo Aquino, Ejay Falcon and introducing Jane Oineza. Franco Daza, Nico Antonio, Jairus Aquino, Mosang, Richard Quan, with the special participation of child star Xyriel Manabat, round out the cast of the movie.

Star Cinema Distributes the 2012 Cinemalaya Box-Office Hit 'Bwakaw!'

Jun Robles Lana’s critically-acclaimed first independent film “Bwakaw” is set to be released by Star Cinema in cinemas nationwide on September 5 (Wednesday).

Rated ‘A’ by the Cinema Evalution Board (CEB), “Bwakaw” is a drama-comedy about growing old, and everyone's fear of growing old alone. It shares the life of Rene, played by veteran actor-director Eddie Garcia, a 75-year-old man who thinks that at his age it is too late for love, even companionship, and that all there is to look forward to is death. But Rene’s life suddenly turns around when a stray dog named “Bwakaw”—a Filipino street slang for greedy—suddenly teaches him a lesson about life.

Distributed by Star Cinema, “Bwakaw” made headlines recently as it earned nods from globally renowned movie fests including the Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival. It was also awarded at the 8th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival with Best Actor (for Eddie), Audience Choice, and Netpac Awards in the Director’s Showcase.

According to Garcia, “Bwakaw” is a heartwarming tale of a unique friendship. “Istorya ito ng pagmamahalan ng aso at isang 75 years old na bading na pinaghahandaan na ang kanyang kamatayan,” explained Eddie who topbills the film that tackles about friendship, missed opportunities, second chances, fears of growing old and being alone.

Meanwhile, Lana shared that his indie-turned-mainstream film “Bwakaw,” was a break to go back to his roots. “I decided to join Cinemalaya this year because I thought it was time to return to my roots. It was not an easy journey, but worth every moment. Writing, producing, and directing ‘Bwakaw’ was quite liberating. For the first time, there were no templates. All I had to focus on was the story and how to best tell it visually,” said Jun, who gained popularity for writing his string of highly-acclaimed commercial films like “Jose Rizal,” “Muro-Ami,” and “Bagong Buwan.”

Aside from Garcia and Princess, the dog, “Bwakaw” also stars Rez Cortez, Gardo Versoza, Bibeth Orteza, Soxie Topacio, Allan Paule, Joey Paras, Beverly Salviejo, Soliman Cruz, Bibeth Orteza, Luz Valdez, Jonathan Neri, May-I Fabros, and Ms. Armida Siguion-Reyna.

"Bwakaw" hits cinemas nationwide on September 5, 2012.

The Making of 'Amorosa: The Revenge'

Skylight Films and Star Cinema once more bring us another horror movie this year. After we witnessed the horror and terror brought to us by "Corazon Ang Unang Aswang" last March, here come another breed of horror film with a different twist.

Let's get to know how the movie was conceptualized and see some behind the scene footage. Here is the making of "Amorosa:"

"Amorosa" The Revenge" starring Ms. Angel Aquino, Empress, Ejay Falcon, Martin Del Rosario, and Enrique Gil will hit the theater this coming August 29, 2012.

'Amorosa' Starts the Terror This August 29!

You can run, but you can’t hide. No matter where you go, Amorosa: The Revenge will find you when it hits theaters in a few days. Brought to you by Skylight Films—the maindie (mainstream indie) film arm of Star Cinema and the same group behind the successful Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang—this movie will give audiences plenty to scream about.

To hear the cast tell it, a lot of screaming went into the making of this movie. Actress/TV host Angel Aquino, who makes her horror film debut in Amorosa: The Revenge as doting mother Rosa, admits that she was constantly fighting her fear while shooting. “I used my imagination a lot. So kung ano man yung instructions sa akin ni Direk Topel [Lee], na-i-imagine ko na totoo talaga. Kunyari sasabihin niya sa akin na merong multo sa likod ko, hindi na talaga ako lilingon, kasi na-i-magine ko nga na meron talaga. Minsan tinatanong ko si Direk kung bakit pa niya kailangan sabihin sa akin yun kasi madali akong matakot.”

Angel adds the spooky atmosphere on their set made the experience a lot scarier. “We actually think there were really ghosts there kasi one of the castmembers took a photo in one of the rooms, and sa photo niya may lumabas talagang reflection on the door. That door is so old, as in hindi siya makintab or varnished, so imposible na magka-reflection siya, but sa photo, there really was an image of a girl in a white dress on the door! Nung pinakita sa akin, natakot ako talaga. Sabi pa ng stylist naman namin na may third eye, meron daw talagang multo doon.”

Enrique Gil, who plays Rommel, one of Rosa’s two sons, used to dismiss the possibility that their location was haunted. But after several days on set and hearing all the scary stories from his co-stars and the crew, Enrique changed his tune. “Nung una ako pa yung nagsasabi sa kanila na walang multo sa set namin. Pero habang nagtagal, pati ako natatakot na rin. Nakakatakot talaga sa lugar na yun kasi sa gabi may fog, tapos nag-ha-howl pa yung wind. Kaya nga kung pwede, ayoko maiwan sa standby area ng mag-isa.”

Martin del Rosario, who plays Rosa’s blind son Amiel, was one of the few cast members who kept his fears at bay. When asked how he did it, he shared that he just focused on how great it was to be part of Amorosa: The Revenge. “Mahilig kasi talaga ako sa horror movies. Kung papipiliin mo ako, horror kasi gusto ko panuorin. Kaya masaya ako na napasama ako dito. First time ko rin makatrabaho sina Ms. Angel at Enrique sa isang movie. Masaya, parang magkaka-age lang kami. Very comfortable kaming lahat sa isa’t-isa—kahit minsan may nangyayaring nakakatakot sa set na hindi namin talaga ma-explain.”

But don’t take the cast’s word for it—see for yourself how terrifying the movie is when it hits theaters on August 29.

Amorosa: The Revenge is directed by Topel Lee. Also starring in it are Empress, Carlo Aquino, Ejay Falcon and introducing Jane Oineza. Franco Daza, Nico Antonio, Jairus Aquino, Mosang, Richard Quan, with the special participation of child star Xyriel Manabat, round out the cast of the movie.

Skylight Films Brings Another Must See Horror Flick, ‘Amorosa: The Revenge!’

When Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang hit theaters earlier this year, it was billed as a Skylight Films production distributed by Star Cinema. People were puzzled.

They were familiar with the latter, but the former was alien to them. So at the time, the question on their minds was, “What is Skylight Films?”

According to Star Cinema’s Enrico Santos, Skylight Films is the newest unit in ABS-CBN Films. It was established sometime last year, but only started actively making movies this year. “It is the network’s ‘maindie’ or ‘mainstream-indie’ film unit. It’s not a label of Star Cinema. We don’t do the kinds of movies that Star Cinema makes, like yung mga family dramas. Ours have more edge. They’re not as experimental as the indie films made for Cinemalaya, but they’re indie pa rin, although we do try to cater to and entertain mainstream sensibilities.”

Enrico says Skylight Films projects are indie in the sense that they use the same equipment indie filmmakers use. “Actually, we were one of the first mainstream groups to employ digital equipment. Because of that, the directors we work with are free from things like using expensive film stock.” Also, they experiment with new filmmaking techniques, like innovations in color grading, and also find new ways to distribute and promote their movies.

To hear Enrico tell it, Skylight Films is like a laboratory. It’s mainly a venue for ABS-CBN to conduct experiments, which can involve anything from trying out new techniques to working with new actors (and, in the case of Corazon, which was bannered by the teamup of Erich Gonzales and Derek Ramsay, new combinations), new directors, and new kinds of stories.

Enrico says some of those experiments may eventually be used in Star Cinema’s mainstream projects, but only in special cases. “If we see it’s pang mainstream, sige, go. But we can never be identical to mainstream because the real mission of Skylight Films is to give viewers something different from the usual fare.”

They began that mission with Corazon, and seem poised to have another hit on their hands with the psychological horror-slash-family drama Amorosa: The Revenge.

“Sa Amorosa, nakatirintas ang family drama and horror. It’s one of the most twist-filled movies you will see,” Enrico promises. “It all depends on how moviegoers will accept the movie. We’re taking a big risk with this, but we trust na willing sila.”

Skylight Films’ latest offering will witness some of its stars—including Enrique Gil and Angel Aquino—make their horror film debut. Amorosa: The Revenge also stars Martin del Rosario, Empress, Carlo Aquino, Ejay Falcon and introducing Jane Oineza. Also starring in Amorosa: The Revenge are Franco Daza, Nico Antonio, Jairus Aquino, Mosang and Richard Quan, with the special participation of child star Xyriel Manabat.

Amorosa: The Revenge is directed by Topel Lee and will premiere on August 29.
